Flog Your Blog: How to Turn Your Blog Into a Book

The Book Broads, three saucy Broads who know books, offer great tips on how to turn your blog into a book. With insight into the Canadian publishing industry, and a crash-course in the realities of book publishing today, the Broads will talk about the difference between traditional and entrepreneurial books. Jeepers, they even discuss how to decide whether a blog is actually a good candidate for print publishing. Using examples of real-life bloggers who have successfully published books, they’ll illustrate how social media marketing and old-school offline marketing and publicity work in conjunction when promoting a book – well before it's published. Participants will get the chance to tap into each Broads' varied experience and knowledge in a single session.

The Book Broads are Angela Crocker, Kim Plumley & Peggy Richardson.

They're hot. Off the presses.

Together they write, speak and consult on publishing, marketing, social media and publicity in the world of books. While all three work as consultants in their own right, they share a synergistic love for authors, a deep passion for the written word, and plain ol' puppy love for books. A little bit cheeky and a lot sassy, these book-loving women are keen to bring their enthusiasm for the world of books to fans of their podcast and blog at www.thebookbroads.com.

About Angela Crocker – Marketing Mamma
Over the last twenty years, Angela Crocker has worked extensively in communications, marketing, networking, sponsorship, and teaching.  Seven years as a bookseller, five years working for a large publishing house, a dozen years of publishing related committees and ongoing book consulting gigs have filled her career with a lifelong personal passion – reading. Today, she works as a social media instructor and coach through her company Beachcomber Communications and she’s writing her first book about creating a social network for Penguin Group (USA).  An Honours graduate of Simon Fraser University, she studied at the highly respected Canadian Centre for Studies in Publishing. Known for her big smile, endless patience, crazy ideas, masterful organization, and attention to detail, Angela’s the Broad to have around to keep projects on task - and she only uses a small whip.

About Kim Plumley – Publicity Chick
Kimberly Plumley's diverse background in communications and book publishing has made her one of Canada's best-known publicists (at least that is what her mom says). Prior to founding Publicity Mavens, she worked in market research, advertising, radio, television, and other media. She was an assistant publicist for a local firm, and later worked as the senior publicist for a Canadian publishing house setting up regional and national media campaigns. Her publicity firm is now going into its 10th year.  Kimberly uses her infamous sense of humour to connect with clients and have a lot of fun. She currently works with a network of industry professionals across North America and continues to be a favourite of producers and reporters alike... and her kids think she is pretty cool too!

 Peggy Richardson – Grammar Geek
With words as her guide, Peggy Richardson has lived a double life in technology and publishing. Drawing on her technical background over twenty years, Peggy blogs about her specialty in writing and editing non-fiction at WizardofeBooks.com. She has been working on web content development projects for as long as the medium has existed. Peggy thrives on information overload, and lives to translate even the most complex technical information into easy to understand terms that anyone can put into action. (Did anyone get that sentence?)  Peggy’s passion for communication has inspired her to explore cross-over media like video podcasting, live Internet radio, social media tools and interactive ebooks.
