Once again, Northern Voice is offering six travel scholarships of CAN $500 each. The organizing committee will be awarding these bursaries based on a number of criteria, including:
-
The contributions you can make to the conference
-
Your level of need
-
The quality of your submission
-
The diversity you might bring to Northern Voice
The deadline for submissions is April 1st, 2010 (no joke), and we will be announcing the recipients shortly afterward. The bursaries will be paid out via cheque mailed out to recipients or picked up at the conference.
To apply, we ask that you write a blog post, or record a podcast or video blog post describing why you want to come to Northern Voice. We suggest you address the criteria above as well. Once you’ve published your post, let us know by pasting the URL in the comments field below.

I will recommend not to hold off until you get enough money to order goods! You should just take the mortgage loans or commercial loan and feel yourself fine

The internet made me GAY
Or rather, it expanded my queer sexuality in the most visible way possible: online pornography.

Why I want to go to #NV2010...
Kris told me to DRINK, HORSE, DRINK... so here I am. At the trough. Trying to slurp up some travel bucks for #NV2010.
I've posted a wee blog about it here:
http://ow.ly/1tQog
My plan is to be onsite Friday, May 7 (I have to head back home on the 8th).
My contributions: posting liberally via Twitter in real-time, with pics and perhaps video, about what I'm experiencing, writing about the event afterwards, perhaps even doing an interview with 1-2 of the folks who inspire me.
Level of need: Hmmm... it costs about $200 to get there and back. I'm a writer and photographer working in a corner of the province that's still in recovery mode so while I'm having a good time the kids and cats are getting thinner (ie. I could use the whole of my travel costs covered)
The quality of my submission... well, that's for you folks to decide. I'm pushing this through last minute before picking my kids up from the ferry so it's a complete wing-it job.
Diversity I might bring to #NV2010? How many 50 year old hair-thinning/middle-thickening white guys who can dance Argentine tango, salsa, Vienese Waltz, foxtrot while mixing up amazing cocktails like the Tart Cosmo, Hemingway Daquiri, Vesper Martini, or (the best) Hank's Gin Savoy will you have on hand? I bet I'm the only one.

Northern Voice Travel Scholarship
What a fantastic opportunity. I would love to be considered as a candidate for the travel scholarship to this years Northern Voice conference. I've been discussing this conference with my friend Dave Olson up there in Vancouver and envying the dynamic social media community you guys have. Alas, I'm stuck here in Salt Lake City where a lot of things are not so dynamic. It would mean a lot to me to be able to attend.
I do a podcast with some folks in Portland, Oregon and today's episode contains my plea (as per the above criteria). The episode is #6, On the Poor Boat. The discussion of Northern Voice and my address of the criteria starts at about minute 27 - at the beginning of our interview with Dave. Feel free to listen to the whole episode if you'd like. I hope it's okay that the required portion is buried within it.
Here's the link on iTunes (it's still processing so you may need to subscribe to see episode #6):

And here's the Naked Marketers web site, with all episodes embedded on the home page:

Travel Bursary
I hope it's not too late to apply for the bursary! http://www.clarkeblog.com/northern-voice-2010
I just heard about this
I just heard about this travel scholarship and think it's great! I'd rather not make a blog post/podcast/video because I consider this a private matter and don't want to worry my fans about my financial situation...
My pockets may be getting empty, but my mind is rich with the knowledge of producing engaging web video content. Allow me to give you a little information about myself.
I've been making web series for almost 5 years and have made some of the highest profile Canadian series over that period of time. I started in 2005 with Kitkast, which was #1 on iTunes and featured in Rolling Stone Magazine, I then created Galacticast in 2006, which won 5 Vloggie awards and was featured in The Hollywood Reporter and BBC News, and am now working on A Comicbook Orange which was just nominated for a Streamy Award by the International Academy of Web Television.
I produce my shows independently and have been traveling back and forth between Montreal, Vancouver and Los Angeles over the past 2 years. Since I can't work in the US without a work permit, I haven't made money in a few years. I would need money for return air travel between Vancouver and Los Angeles, but luckily have a place to crash with my brother in Burnaby.
I would love to contribute to Northern Voice with my experience on how to create, pitch and/or produce professional web series and build/sustain an interactive audience.
I hope this message finds you well,
Casey

Bring the little Naramatian home
I'm a bit with Casey on ideally not adding this post to my blog, but not because of people not knowing my financial status (although that is embarrassing too), but because I have a dating blog and this doesn't QUITE fit the theme.
So, Personal Blogger? That I am. I tell my deep and darkest insecurities to the internet, including embarrassing things I do on dates, my horror date stories, and the troubles I have coping with heartache. I'm saying the things people are afraid to say. My blog is my personal outlet because it offers me a sense of anonymity that allows me to say things I couldn't or cannot say, but by putting my real name and pictures of myself out there, helps me to have to come face to face with all that makes me feel comfortable. My blog is slowly but surely helping form me into the woman that I truly am behind closed doors, and fully accept and feel comfortable exposing it to those outside them.
Social media? Dear lord just visit my twitter (twitter.com/unbrelievable) and see the THOUSANDS of tweets I have.. LOVE it. (AND I WILL NEVER CLAIM TO BE AN EXPERT, GURU etc etc).
What people are most interested/intrigued/confused by, is the fact that I am a product manager at a software company (online fundraising), i love board games (CATAN!!!), programming, video games, beer -- yet I blog about something entirely different. People are intrigued, and want to know how i juggle both. How many dating bloggers will be at the conference that will bring settlers of catan in their suitcase? FLASH MOB CATAN? YES PLEASE!
As for my need -- I am not the most needy, most definitely, however I am a lost British Columbian (born in Oliver, raised in Naramata/Penticton) in the big smoke, hog town, Toronto. I met the Hootsuite boys last week and they made me nostalgic, and told me about this conference and how I just NEED to be there... and I agree.
I'm also paying the big bucks for rent in downtown Toronto, living on my own. I had roomates in the past, but a crack dealer in our sketchy hood (the rent was cheap okay?) broke into our apartment and took my macbook, all my jewelry, ipods, booze, everything. He was only in my bedroom since I was on the first floor, and I felt violated. My roomates didn't, they stayed, so I needed to get a place on my own.
End of sob story, it's all good, I eventually got a new macbook, and all is well. I am also a diehard canucks fan??!! Can you tell I really want to come yet?
Bring me home to the mothership, PLEASE!
With a plea like that...
How could you possibly turn her down! Yup, definitely someone who loves personal expression in a rather translucent manner.
